1. Statement Range Hoods
Make a bold statement in your kitchen with a customized range hood, bringing style and function to one of the most important appliances in the kitchen. Whether that's a hood cover that blends seamlessly into the cabinetry or one that pops with a bold color, emphasizing the hood is always a great focal point in the kitchen.
2. Mixed Materials
Gone are the days of matching everything in your kitchen. A popular trend right now is combining materials such as wood, quartz, and stainless steel, giving your kitchen a unique and customized look. Even using a combination of different countertop materials like real stone quartzite and porcelain-like Dekton can give your kitchen a one-of-a-kind touch.
3. Matte Black
Matte black finishes are taking over the kitchen design world, with appliances, faucets, black suede finish countertops and even cabinetry taking on this sleek, modern, and elegant look. I'm a huge fan of matte black for lighting, plumbing fixtures and cabinet hardware. It creates a a neutral yet bold statement for any kitchen.
Pro tip: Combine this with #2 on this list -- mix and match matte black and gold features for an elegant, high-end look.
4. Integrated and Hidden Appliances
Cabinet appliance panels can hide a refrigerator in plain sight. By integrating appliances within the cabinetry (instead of free standing), you can make your kitchen feel larger. With the right design, even large refrigerators and ovens can be made to blend in seamlessly among the cabinets, giving a continuous flow to your kitchen.
5. Smart Appliances
I can't mention appliances without mentioning "smart" features. Advancement of technology has made our lives easier, and this is no different in the kitchen. Smart appliances, such as smart fridges, can make grocery shopping easier by keeping track of supplies. They'll even suggest recipes based on the ingredients available! What's next? Get prepared food at the touch of a button? Count me in. 😉
6. Induction Cooking
Although I am a huge fan of gas stoves (and my chef partner, Dan, will forever be on team gas), I have been seeing a big increase in induction cooktops. It's a sleek and refined cooking method that heats the cookware directly instead of the surface, making it an effective time-saver, and is often found in luxury kitchens. PLUS, combined with the right surface, you can have a seamless countertop installed over the induction elements, making a gorgeous statement that is also vey functional.
7. Pot Filler
While pot fillers are not new to the luxury kitchen market, it still remains a must-have for many people. The ease of filling a pasta pot with water right where you need it is a great functional aspect to have in your kitchen.
Pro Tip: Interestingly, almost all pot fillers are hooked up to a COLD plumbing line. Surprised? The trick around is is to hook it up to an instant hot water tank so you get HOT water from your pot filler.
8. Full-height Backsplashes
A full-height backsplash is one of my favorite high-end design features. To go one step further, have the countertop run up the backsplash, allowing any veining or pattern in the material to flow continuously. This gives a dramatic effect, especially when a striking pattern is used as the focal point in any upscale kitchen.
9. Gold Accents
The gold trend is still going strong! From faucets and lighting to knobs and pulls, gold accents are an easy way to add a touch of luxuriousness to your kitchen. If you cringe when you hear gold because it reminds you of that high sheen, mustard yellow brassy tones we all saw way too much of in the 80's, don't worry--that is still outdated. (I'm looking at you, living room fireplace!) Instead, opt for the new, more vibrant gold tones have a broad array from light champagne gold to rose gold that exudes warmth and elegance.
10. Beverage and Wine Coolers
Keep your drinks at the perfect temperature with a beverage or wine cooler. It adds a touch of sophistication to your existing décor and makes hosting dinner parties a breeze. I love the dual zone options for wine, allowing you to separate reds and white and have them reside in the temperature zone that's optimized for best taste.
11. Custom Cabinetry
Shaker cabinets will always be a classic with their clean, simple lines, and timeless look. But we are seeing a rise in custom flat panel cabinets, that blend a modern seamless style with the warmth that only real wood tones and grain can give. Having the cabinetry extend to the ceiling with crown molding adds a custom touch that will elevate any kitchen design.
12. Under Cabinet Lighting
LED strip lights have changed the game when it comes to under cabinet lighting. While there are a lot to choose from on the market, you'll want one that has a diffuser on it so you avoid the dotted light effect that can reflect off the countertop. With a diffused under cabinet light strip with a warm glow, it can complete the luxury kitchen ambiance.
Final Thoughts:
There's no shortage of options when it comes to designing a luxurious kitchen. The perfect choice will depend on your style, your needs, and your budget. Whichever direction you choose, make sure to infuse your kitchen with a little personality and fun! Staying on trend definitely makes for a beautiful kitchen, but always strive for a space that reflects you and your family, and above all, functions well.
Whether it's the bold backsplash integrated appliances, the end goal is a kitchen that makes you feel comfortable, inspired, and happy.
